The Detector simulator is an exciting challenge for reaction speed and the ability to overcome internal contradictions. Various colored shapes constantly appear on the playing field, inside which there is an inscription in the format "color plus shape". Your task is to click on a shape only if the text inscription absolutely truthfully describes what you see in front of you. If the inscription is false and contradicts the real picture, such a shape must be ignored.

What the task involves

Each decision requires two checks: does the written colour match the object, and does the written shape match it? A partly correct label is still incorrect. Reading a familiar word can tempt you to respond before checking the picture. The task therefore asks you to compare text with visible features and withhold a click when either part fails. It is a game with conflicting cues, not a clinical Stroop assessment.

A strategy to try

Try a fixed order: inspect the colour, inspect the shape, then decide whether to click. For example, a red square labelled “red circle” passes the colour check but fails the shape check. Do not stop after the first match. Begin at a pace that lets you check both properties, and speed up only while maintaining accuracy. If errors increase, return to deliberate checking for a few rounds.

Understanding your result

Look at incorrect selections as well as speed. Mistaking the shape and mistaking the colour suggest different checks to revisit. Compare sessions in the same language and at the same difficulty: reading fluency and familiarity with the labels affect performance. A better score reflects performance on this task. It does not measure a brain region or establish improved self-control, language ability or decision-making in everyday life.
